Wealth of Exhibits at the Cowboy Hall of Fame & Museum
The Cowboy Hall of Fame and Museum, as the name suggests, houses a great number of exhibits related to the cowboy culture. In fact, the figure for exhibits stands at more than 28,000, and these include Western as well as Native American artifacts and art works.
The Museum conducts the Prix de West Invitational Art Exhibition and Sale in June every year. It also houses the world's most exhaustive collection of rodeo trophies of yesteryears, saddlery, photographs, American rodeo and barbed wire. The great number of cowboy sculptures, still life pieces, portraits, landscapes and photo galleries are an absolute treat. The Cowboy Museum in Oklahoma City also houses three Halls of Fame - the Rodeo Hall of Fame, the Hall of Great Westerners and the Hall of Great Western Performers.
The Cowboy Hall of Fame & Museum organizes a great number of events throughout the year to attract visitors:
- This year's Prix de West art exhibition continues till September 6.
- The Museum is conducting an exhibition of photographs depicting bull wrecks in rodeo that goes on till January 10, 2011.
- The Museum is also hosting exhibits from September 24, 2010 till January 2, 2011 that highlight work carried out by members of the Traditional Cowboy Arts Association (TCAA) to promote the art of making bits, spurs and saddles as well as silversmithing and rawhide braiding.
- Active military personnel and their families receive free entry to the Cowboy Hall of Fame and Museum till September 6, 2010.
