OKC Arts Festival
Located just 1.5 miles from downtown Oklahoma City’s historic Bricktown District, the newly remodeled Bricktown Hotel is your destination for superior lodging when you plan to partake in the OKC Arts Festival.
Held for more than 40 years since 1967, the OKC Arts Festival showcases artists in the fields of visual arts, performing arts and culinary arts. The Festival of the Arts (the official name for the Oklahoma City Arts Festival) is a great opportunity for families to hang out and experience the simple pleasures of life.
The 44th OKC Festival of the Arts, 2010, as with all previous editions of the event, would be held for six days, from April 20 to 25. The venues are the Festival Plaza, Stage Center and the Myriad Botanical Gardens. It’s a time for the entire OKC community to come together. Admission is free and pets aren’t allowed. Timings are 11 AM to 9 PM Tuesday to Saturday, and 11 AM to 6 PM on Sunday.
This year, the Visual Arts category would include the exhibits of more than 140 artists from 32 states as well as those from Canada and Russia. The Windscapes, an exhibit of kinetic art, would be at the Myriad Botanical Gardens, while the Stage Center Lawn would accommodate a large-scale exhibit of SculpturePark.
The Performing Arts Category would include more than 300 performers and musicians, including bands, dance groups, clowns as well as a trick roper. The Culinary Arts category is all about the International Food Row that consists of more than 30 vendors offering mouthwatering dishes. Those participating include Upper Crust Upside-Down Pizza, Gopuram Taste of India, Papa’s Genuine Greek Foods, and many more. The great dishes on offer could include calzone and chocolate chip pizza offered by Sammy’s, chicken stroganoff and Prato Sao Paulo from Café do Brasil, prime rib slider and drunken fries offered by Deep Fork Grill, beef Wellington and Bavarian strudel from Helmut Strudel, Tequila Bread Pudding, Indian Tacos, Strawberries Newport, Coyote Chicken Sandwich, and Baja Tacos.
The Festival Idol Talent Contest is another fun-filled event, while another highlight of Festival of the Arts this year is the special exhibit to honor the artist from Oklahoma, Bert Seabourn. Kids can check out the Young-At-Art Mart, an art shopping venue exclusively for children. It includes artwork affordably priced at or below $5. Face painting is another activity that would interest kids. Other destinations that would be frequented by families are the Children’s Area, Pottery Place and Creation Station.
The annual OKC Arts Festival is one of the great fun-filled events everyone looks forward to. Be part of the action, while enjoying the warm hospitality and outstanding services of Bricktown Hotel.
