Oklahoma Alfred P. Murrah Memorial
The Oklahoma Alfred P. Murrah Memorial refers to the Oklahoma City National Memorial built on the site of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building that was bombed on April 19, 1995 in the most widespread incident of domestic violence on American soil. The present Memorial is a pleasant place to visit and features many architectural attractions designed to remember the victims, the injured and their relatives and to remind visitors of the importance of survival against the odds and the irreparable damage caused by violence.
Oklahoma City National Memorial: Key Aspects
Some of the key elements of the Oklahoma Alfred P. Murrah Memorial are The Gates of Time, the Field of Empty Chairs, the Survivors' Wall, the Reflecting Pool and The Survivor Tree. The latter is an elm that was originally part of the compound of the Alfred P. Murrah Building but miraculously survived the blast. The Gates of Time are the entrance to the Memorial, while the Field of Empty Chairs consists of 168 chair shapes made of bronze, glass and stone for the 168 victims of the bombing. The names of each of the victims are listed on the respective chairs.
The Reflecting Poll is a rectangular and shallow body of water over a black granite floor. The crystal clear reflection is truly refreshing and is situated next to the Field of Empty Chairs. Looking into the pool and seeing one's reflection is said to reveal the faces of the victims of the bombing and other such violent acts.
The Oklahoma Alfred P. Murrah Memorial draws hordes of visitors each year. Visitors to the city can experience affordability and convenience at the Bricktown Hotel & Convention Center that offers 24-hour shuttle service and a host of other amenities as part of a competitive package.
